min read

The Sherman Centre for Digital Scholarship is excited to announce a new partnership with the Faculty of Science’s Office of Undergraduate Research on SCIENCE 2SF1: Digital Skills Workshop, a new undergraduate course offered in Fall 2025 and Winter 2026 at McMaster University. Drawing from our extensive digital scholarship workshop series, SCIENCE 2SF1 offers undergraduate science students the opportunity to develop digital research skills in a for-credit format while exploring interdisciplinary approaches to science and scholarship.

This course marks an exciting expansion of the Sherman Centre’s workshop series into the classroom, offering undergraduate science students the opportunity to engage directly with the tools, methods, and practices of digital scholarship. Through this partnership, students will gain hands-on experience with interdisciplinary research approaches that are reshaping the future of science.

Exploring Digital Scholarship

SCIENCE 2SF1 introduces students to the foundations of digital scholarship, with a focus on practical, hands-on learning. Students will explore:

  • New sources of research evidence, such as social media data, biometric data, and sensor data
  • Innovative research methods, including database development, sentiment analysis, and 3D printing
  • Contemporary research outputs, like podcasts, interactive narratives, digital exhibits, and code repositories

The course also supports key science career competencies:

  • Critical thinking and problem solving
  • Digital literacy and research communication
  • Understanding the role of technology in society and scholarship

Coming in Fall 2025 and Winter 2026

SCIENCE 2SF1: Digital Skills Workshop will be offered on McMaster’s central campus in Fall 2025 and Winter 2026. We’re proud to support this innovative course and look forward to working with students as they expand their research skills, explore new methods, and engage critically with the digital dimensions of science.
